Sunglasses Case

This is another glasses case
which was fun to make.
I had some linen and lovely fabrics to use up.
Looking for a suitable button I came across
this lovely little one I had stored away!!
I am sure you know how these things
get put to the back of the cupboard, well
this was one of those.
Happy Sewing, SuziQ

Zakka Style Sew Along

If you are at all interested in Zakka Style (like me)  you will want to know about the Sew-Along. I love this book! It is one of those books that makes you want to do it all!  Here are the dates:
Hope you are enjoying your Saturday like I am - housework done, into the sewing room I go!

Scrap Autumn Pillow

I enjoyed making this pillow - very easy - great way to use up some of those scraps we accumulate.  I must admit I did cut out the trunk a few times using different coloured material, but ended up with this one - I slept on it and this morning I thought, yes, that's the one! Do you find you do that sometimes?
I must give thanks to Cluck Cluck Sew for inspiration.

I am thoroughly enjoying my Sunday, I hope you are too.
Until next time . . . cheers, SuziQ

Remember the movie with Richard Gere?

This great movie has been made into a musical and Sydney will host the world premiere of An Officer and a Gentleman from 20 May 2012 and my DH has bought tickets for us to see - I can't wait!!

A hit across the ages, the Academy Award-winning 1982 film has become a phenomenon in cinema history, recently listed by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten love stories in cinema history.

I can still remember the tears running down my cheeks after this movie starring Richard Gere and Debra Winger and of course that wonderful song "Up there where we belong" by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes.

Working class heroes overcome their upbringing and personal weaknesses to accept life and find love.

I have just listened to the song again and all those memories come flooding back from the 80's - such wonderful memories too.
So, if you are coming to Sydney in May I can highly recommend
you booking in to this great musical.
Enjoy your day . . .SuziQ

Grand Old Lady Turns 80 Today

As a bus driver I just couldn't let today go by without mentioning about Sydney's Harbour Bridge - she turns 80 today.  I never get tired of driving over her all times of the day and night.

Known as the "Grand Old Dame" of Sydney, or more colloquially "The Coathanger", the bridge was officially opened to traffic on 19 March 1932, joining the harbour's northern and southern shores for the first time.

Around 14,000 workers played a role in erecting the bridge, which is now being crossed by 160,000 vehicles every weekday.

What were your first thoughts when you travelled over the bridge?

Hope these pics bring back some great memories . . . SuziQ

Mollie Makes Issue Twelve

The latest issue of Mollie Makes has arrived and it has some great Easter treats. I particularly like this very easy idea with a colourful hanky. There is also a great apron made from vintage tray cloths.

Extract:
Step into spring with our Simple Pleasures issue by your side and you'll never be short of inspiration. Our latest issue features seven great projects. Set a table for Easter with Susie Johnson's quirky egg cosies. And while you've got your needles out, what about a pair of baby slippers designed by Caroline de Hugo. We've two fab crochet patterns - our free gift is a crochet flower brooch. Or, for a home style injection of the crochet kind, cover a stool seat. Plus, Donna Bramhall has dropped by to show us how to transform a plain white sweatshirt with thrifted doilies. Nicki Trench demonstrates how to make an apron from vintage traycloths. If you just want to relax and enjoy the spring sunshine, we've plenty of good reads too. Plus: shopping, treats and surprises everywhere you look!

Selected the fabrics . . .

Selected the fabrics, so now it is time to cut . . . will keep you posted with the outcome on this one. Looks like the rain has gone now and the sun is out - beautiful afternoon coming up.
Enjoy whatever you are doing today . . . SuziQ

One piece reading glasses case

This project is from one of my favourite e-books "Modern Patchwork" - it is a one piece case for your readers. It was very easy to make from the template provided. I always find the hardest part is choosing the fabrics! I decided on some Amy Butler fabrics. I managed to do some free-motion stitching and also cut my own bias strips and finished them off with hand sewing. So easy I even amazed myself!

Hope you are having a great Sunday. Weather in Sydney is coming in overcast, my DH has just left for work, so the afternoon for me is finishing off the laundry and of course into the sewing room until I drag myself out to see My Kitchen Rules!  Cheers, SuziQ

Fabric Basket

I just loved sewing this little fabric basket. I used fabric by Kate Spain "terrain" for moda. So handy for my large cotton reels. The lining was a little tricky and having to turn it out through small opening, but I managed to squeeze it all through! Just one of those fun projects.
Enjoy your day . . . SuziQ

Just had to have that . . .

Well today being a dull rainy day in Sydney I decided to have one of
those days we all cherish in the sewing room . . .
BUT I had to go the quilt shop because my cutter was blunt!
that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!!!  Seriously, I have been struggling to cut the strips and squares for my SKoW project. Put on the new blade and WOW what a huge difference.

Just had to have this Sashiko kit . . . I have wanted to do this for years . . . it has the needles, cotton and all fabrics andthe end result will be a beautiful table runner.

Oh, and my "stash" needed topping up too!I have had a wonderful day pottering around in my own little world - sorting, stacking, cutting and taking pics.  My DH has offered to cook dinner so what a perfect ending to a Saturday . . . until next time . . .

Cathedral Window pincushion

I came home yesterday afternoon determined to get behind the sewing machine and this was the end result.
I chose the colourful fabrics from Terrain by Kate Spain for Moda
and I am not disappointed with the result.
I haven't done cathedral windows before and I am now addicted!!!
I just loved doing this so much I have found a cushion
in Moda Bake which I will be doing.
Have you done cathedral window items?
I must give thanks to the tutorial in Moda Bake.

Tissue Cozy

I have been wanting to make this for a while.
I must give thanks to the tutorial on
This is my version . . . and I can
see a few of these being made now
I have the hang of it!

SKoW - Still here!

Hi everyone . . . I thought I best get my act together and post at least what I have done otherwise you will think I have dropped off the planet! Life has been a little hectic lately as I am sure you all know too well.  I am up to date with blocks December, January and February except for last block, ie. the book.

I haven't been blogging at all - must prioritise my life!

Silly me didn't cut the extra squares etc. when I first commenced this wonderful journey, so have been cutting, cutting and cutting - finally finished!

I think I might invest in an Accuquilt Go after this cutting exercise - any reviews out there on the Accuquilt Go?

Anyhow, just touching base and I love seeing all of the finished blocks
on this blog they are all unique and special.

Until next time . . . enjoy whatever you are doing each day
